Abstract
In vivo hypocholesterolemic effects of the extracts of Rosa multiflora roots (RORT) orally administered to chickens were evaluated. Feeding of the methanol extracts of RORT with cholesterol reduced the concentrations of serum cholesterol by 21%
as
compared to those of control groups. The extracts were fed to chickens for 4 weeks and the concentration of serum cholesterol was periodically determined. Of the each extracts, feeding of ethyl acetate extracts lowered the concentration of serum
cholesterol by 8% and the effects lated for the experimental period. In addition, there was no evident dose-dependent response in the concentration of serum cholesterol, when animals were fed with 0.15, 0.3 or 0.45% ethyl acetate fractions each
in
te
diet for 3 weeks. The results show a mild hypocholesterolemic effect of the extracts of Rosa multiflora roots in chickens.
